This year marks the third annual coral spawning trip to Key Largo for Georgia Aquarium team members. We have been fortunate to send team members to the Florida Keys to assist the Coral Restoration Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the ocean’s coral reefs, with coral tagging and mapping, outplanting, and coral spawn collection.
Currently, we have four Aquarium members in the Florida Keys whose main goal is to help with staghorn coral spawn collection. What most don’t know though, is that coral spawning is an amazing, natural phenomenon and rather extremely delicate process.
